March 30 Movement Submits ICC Complaint Against Former Israeli War Cabinet Members for Genocide in Gaza
The Hague, July 3, 2024 - This morning, the March 30 Movement, represented by attorney Haroon Raza, officially submitted a comprehensive complaint to the ICC against Benny Gantz, Ron Dermer, Gabi Eisenkot, and Aryeh Deri, all members of Israel's now dissolved War Cabinet. In addition to Netanyahu and Gallant, these individuals cannot be allowed to escape responsibility through resignation. They are co-responsible for designing and implementing the policies of Genocide in Gaza. The complaint also targets government ministers, Itmar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich. The March 30 Movement demands the issuing of arrest warrants against all of these individuals, along with the warrants already planned against Netanyahu and Gallant.
Key elements of the complaint:
-
Dissolution of Israel’s War Cabinet: On June 17, 2024, the Israeli War Cabinet, comprising Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant, Benny Gantz, Ron Dermer, Gabi Eisenkot, and Aryeh Deri, was dissolved. Despite their resignation, the complaint asserts that these war cabinet members should not escape responsibility for the genocide. They are as responsible as Netanyahu and Gallant since the war policy was designed collectively by the war cabinet.
-
Worsening Situation in Gaza: Since mid-June, Israeli attacks have intensified, resulting in over 1,200 additional fatalities and numerous severe injuries among the Gaza population.
-
Exponential Deterioration in the West Bank: Following an order by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on May 29, 2024, administrative responsibilities were transferred to officials under the control of Bezalel Smotrich, aiming to extend Israeli sovereignty over the West Bank. This has led to increased violence against Palestinians, facilitated by rhetoric from various government ministers and actions by the IDF and armed settlers.
-
Ongoing Genocide: Multiple reports from human rights organizations and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) indicate ongoing genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity, particularly since the end of May 2024. These reports document a worsening famine in Gaza and pogroms against Palestinians in the West Bank. The complaint also extends to government ministers, Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich, for their active role in incitement to genocide.
Mr. Raza emphasizes that the ICC should issue arrest warrants against all members of the former war cabinet and these ministers to ensure accountability. The submission references interim measures requested by South Africa against Israel and the ICC's own applications for arrest warrants for Benjamin Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant. He stresses the need for the ICC to hold all members of the former War Cabinet and the current Israeli government accountable for their concerted efforts to eradicate the Palestinian people and seize Palestinian territories.
The March 30 Movement remains committed to relentlessly pursuing every responsible individual for these crimes. Our commitment to justice and human rights in Palestine is underscored by our continuous efforts, including previous comprehensive complaints and submission of evidence to the ICC and local courts. These efforts will continue and intensify.
